Is this why you both put in for desk work this session? I mean to say, Counter-intel’s one thing, but I was surprised when I heard you’d gone for Decryption and Linguistic Analysis, Catchlove. Of course, it’s Travers, but to go for the part of his brief that keeps you tied up in-house? It seemed out of your line. Glad to see you had your reasons.
Speaking of Travers, though. How has that been? Since, well-
I suppose it’s as well I missed all that. But, really, to have lost his brother, when he was such a force. Must be rough.
I expect it’s set Montague back, too. Last we talked, he was aiming to intern with Travers at Buckingham. Said that was by far his best Intensive. That was before Dogstar, though.
Dogstar. What a thing that’s been! Though, honestly, I’m glad to have put my part to bed. Did you hear? I had a bit of a coup in that: unravelled Green’s coding in the archives and found that he’d queered all sorts of reports and documents. Caught his downstream, too: a shoe-shine at Marylebone Floo Station. I thought at first he was in it with his wife. Green, I mean. Not the shoe-shine. Or that she was the one rather than him, at all, maybe Imperiusing him to bring things home, and that she had a lover she was passing things on to. But that wasn’t it. Took a while to get it sorted, of course, but I think I made quite a tidy success of it in the end.
It’s awful what one malicious hand can do if he’s got access to resources like that. At least we know that Central Archives are clean now.
But, Reethi, do say you can go tomorrow for supper. Let’s make it Bubble and Squeak: I haven’t been there for ages. I want to hear what your parents have said. Or have you told them? I thought they were set on matching you themselves. Did they find out you’d moved in? Was that it? I want to hear all of it.
Oh, and after, we could drop in at Beyond the Pale. I hear Bagatelle are playing.
