Thanks for sending the clipping, Vani. You're right. Auror Braithewaite is really one of the most supportive mentors. Imagine his making a point to insist that the reporter mention our contributions? Montague says he's been just nift during his intensive, being sure he's learned everything really thoroughly. They sat surveillance on one of the groups in York. I know Reethi's really hoping she pulls Braithewaite for her next placement. I don't think she's liked arithmantic analysis as much as she expected. That and they haven't let her through the doors in the Department of Mysteries; I know she hoped she could get her foot in or at least make some contacts, so that's been a disappointment.

Anywiz, I'm glad I don't have to make a change yet. I have been thinking a lot, though, and you're right in what you said about Mr Lestrange. I wasn't being really honest about how complicated that is. And, well, it's just really difficult to talk about, I suppose, but I don't want you to think I don't know how careful I must be not to offend Auror Lestrange. You know that I've always, always aimed to impress her; her good opinion is just crucial. And, yes, obviously they're having some conflict, and I do see how complicated that could be.

I just don't think it's quite the same as what's happened with the Rowles, is all.

But, Vani, I'm really, really so sorry how that turned out for you.

And I'm sorry if you thought I didn't understand or was too quick to suspect you'd done something wrong when you told us about the time he, well, about the awkwardness before the Frost Faire that time. I'm glad you're out of it now. Do you really think Mrs Rowle's going back to him, though? I mean to say, I thought she was making a clean break of it, but now she's the one wanting to reconcile? Is that really wise, do you think? After humiliating him so publicly?

When do you get the next break in your certification programme? I'm sure I'll continue to be just as busy as I have been, even with this most recent investigation having wrapped up. That's what's so exciting about working with Ro outside the department with someone who consults: the work comes in from all sorts of places, and there's always a backlog of artefacts to be examined. Of course, MLE work takes priority, always. But when there's a lull in investigative assignments, there are always private commissions.

He's such a good teacher, Vani. I hope you're able to meet him sometime, just to see what I mean. He always makes certain I understand the processes we'll use before we begin--because in the midst of deconstructing a piece, the magic sometimes unspools in several ways at once, and one charm may set off multiple reactions, which, if you weren't prepared, would make it really difficult to follow and manage properly. But even when things seem to be going completely pear-shaped, he's always calm and he never just takes it away from me to do it himself, the way Au which some people would do. And believe me, I've done some completely idiotic things, but he never makes me feel foolish.

I was really so sad ourthe intensive was coming to an end, and it was an absolute surprise that he'd put in for an extension. Still, I don't think I'll do what Willett's apparently done with communications and jump straight into an internship year out of my first intensive. I do want to try surveillance, at least. Probably with Auror Crouch, if he'll take me on. I mean, with all the others asking for Braithewaite, I think it will look well if I approach Crouch, and it's certainly true that a good word from him is well worth earning.

Anyway, enough about work. Let's see if we can get Sarah out of her studio and do something--maybe lunch on one of those little boats that run from Kew. Could you make it this Saturday?
